Dr. Allan Armitage

It is a special honor to recognize Dr. Armitage with the ADS Silver Medallion. He is an internationally recognized leader in horticulture. Referring to his current app, it indicates he is a horticulturist, writer and traveler. We also know that he is an educator, having been conferred with a respectable number of honors related to his success in research and teaching. He is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Georgia. He has authored at least 13 books and countless papers and articles on horticulture. Dr. Armitage is contemporary in that he maintains a large electronic media presence, which includes teaching online courses and offering the previously mentioned app.

Some of the honors given to Dr. Allan Armitage are:

  • The Kiplinger Chair at The Ohio State University.
  • The Alex Laurie Award (American Society of Horticultural Science) for outstanding research in horticulture.
  • The Outstanding Teacher Award from the Professional Greenhouse Growers of Georgia.
  • The Futura Award for outstanding teaching and research from the Professional Plant Growers Association.
  • The Golden Trowel Award for his book Allan Armitage on Perennials from the Garden Writers of America.
  • The Education Media Award for his book Specialty Cut Flowers from the Professional Plant Growers Association.
  • The Teacher of the Year from the Georgia Green Industry Association.
