And the winners are…
The 2019 dahlia season is only a memory. The photo contest entries are in and the winners are chosen! Here a message from Debbie Pavich the Photography Chair:
Photographs are visual images that express the author’s imagination, ideas, and technical skills. The camera lens is used to focus wavelengths of light into an image of what the artist’s eye is viewing. The photos entered in the 2019 are more than images. The photos portray the beauty of the dahlia, historical events related to dahlia culture, the dahlia community, personal histories, and emotions. Dahlias are art.
When I took over the ADS Photo Contest, I had two goals. One was to increase participation in the contest. The second goal was to have the contest move in the direction of an online only format. Forty six artists submitted over 220 photos. Even though the technology and the online process were troublesome for some, including me, only 8 individual submitted photos by mail.
Judging was difficult. Every entry was beautiful. As I read each of your notes and messages, I felt that I was welcomed into your homes, you garden and your lives. Each photo was a Christmas present of a dahlia.
My sincerest thanks to many. To everyone who submitted photos, thank you for sharing your dahlias and talent. Thank you for your patience as I took a huge project over and started from scratch. Thank you, Sharon S., for your technical assistance. Thank you, Michael G and Barb M, for your help in judging the entries.
